At least one other big, major change a move to a brand new location in Blue Earth is still to come. On April 23, Detke-Morbac owner Gene 'Skip' Schimek sold the business to Steve Kibble, owner of Mankato Implement, another John Deere dealership.

In 1978, Hesston Corporation introduced the Model 4800, the industry's first large square baler, revolutionizing hay production and feeding practices at a time when labor availability and fuel prices were driving a need for innovations on the farm. Big square balers have come a long way since then, and on May 16, 2013, a large crowd gathered at AGCO's Hesston Operations to celebrate the 25,000th large square baler built in Hesston, Kan.

Senate Passes Water Resources Development Act
The Senate Wednesday voted 83-14 in support of the Water Resources Development Act, a bill that authorizes Army Corps projects on major inland waterways in the United States, and includes a provision that partially alleviates EPA fuel storage restrictions.

House Agriculture Committee passes new farm bill
After several long hours of debate, the House Agriculture Committee passed a new five-year farm bill, H.R. 1947, late tonight by a 36-10 vote margin. The measure reforms or eliminates more than 100 programs, including the elimination of direct payments that have been the mainstay of the farm safety net for almost two decades.

Deere's Sales, Net Up 9% in 1st Half
Net income attributable to Deere & Company was $1.084 billion, or $2.76 per share, for the second quarter ended April 30, compared with $1.056 billion, or $2.61 per share, for the same period last year.
