AEM Initiates Industry Approach to Comply with Looming REACH Regulations
If REACH has grabbed your attention, you’re not alone. Implementation of REACH, the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and restriction of CHemical substances, is causing concern for AEM and its member companies.
Costs and other challenges could be significant as REACH requires registration of more than 30,000 chemical substances in use today during the course of implementation.

AEM Defends Manufacturer-Dealer Relationships in Opposing New Hampshire Senate Bill
AEM is fighting hard to “keep the genie in the bottle” and prevent passage of New Hampshire Senate bill SB 126 that would force off-road equipment manufacturers to alter the way they conduct business in the state.

AEM’s Future Success Will Depend on Addressing the Challenges of Data, Content, and Competition
What do we need to do as an organization to be successful and relevant now and in the future?
This was one of the key questions asked at our recent AEM internal strategic team meeting held to examine the successes and shortcomings to implement the Strategic Plan, while casting a critical eye on how to improve in the future.

Lessons to Effective Advocacy – And It’s Personal
According to a new CBS poll, 81 percent of Americans disapprove of how Congress is handling its work. From the “sequestration,” to overwhelming debt and lack of a budget, to Congress’ seeming inability to work together on anything, the frustration is understandable. And in this challenging environment, we in the equipment manufacturing industry have several policies we’d like to see Congress address in order to create jobs and encourage investment and growth here in the United States. So is anybody in Congress listening?

Regional Management Committees Will Deliver Focus to AEM Global Business Development Plans
To deliver services to our members globally. It’s a simple statement but so far a somewhat elusive goal for AEM.
The Association has provided many programs and services globally, including market data, our China office and Latin America desk. We have recorded several successes but not the sustainable and well-rounded plan to date that we had hoped to achieve. That is, until now.

AEM’s Public Policy Priorities Support Need for Stronger U.S. Economy, Greater Job Growth
As President Obama begins his second term and the 113th Congress starts its legislative work year, I want to take a moment to provide an update on AEM’s advocacy efforts in Washington and what our legislative and public policy priorities will be in 2013.
The AEM Board of Directors met this past fall to discuss the Association’s policy agenda for the coming year. Together with the I Make America campaign, AEM will focus on several important policy areas to help promote the equipment manufacturing industry, reduce the uncertainty that discourages businesses from investing or hiring, and ensure the growth of jobs in the United States.

Our 2013 Goals: It’s Time to Move from Development to Execution
2012 was a “year of achievement” for AEM as we developed and implemented three key initiatives to meet the objectives of the AEM Strategic Plan.
These three initiatives are: 1) new financial model, 2) two-year advocacy plan, and 3) a services plan to respond to the membership survey results. The goals of these three initiatives will profoundly change how your Association operates on behalf of its members and the industry.

A Time for Us at AEM to Be Thankful
As we race to close the books on 2012 and get some well-deserved and
much-needed time with family and friends during the holidays, I want to use my last column of the year to talk about how much your Association – AEM – has to be thankful for and to thank each of you for helping to make our success possible.
