Global Public Policy
Coalitions

AEM works closely with a variety of other associations and coalitions to help make our voices heard on various policy issues. Listed below are a number of the associations with which we work to help further AEM 's policy interests in state, federal and international arenas.
 
  Federal Coalitions
    American Road and Transportation Builders Association
    The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) is a national federation of private firms, public agencies and associations whose primary goal is to advocate strong federal investment in transportation infrastructure.
     
    Americans for Transportation Mobility
    Americans for Transportation Mobility (ATM) is a national coalition working to ensure our nation's transportation infrastructure is improved to handle current and future demands. The coalition represents transportation users and providers who are working together for a safer and more efficient transportation infrastructure system.
     
    Clean Water Council
    The Clean Water Council (CWC) is a construction industry-based coalition that takes a lead role toward passage water infrastructure legislation. The CWC is a group of national construction contractors, suppliers, manufacturers, engineers and other associations dedicated to water infrastructure funding. The CWC works on all levels of the legislative process to promote water infrastructure funding, including the budget, reauthorization, and annual appropriations processes.
     
    Lawsuite Abuse Reform Coalition
    The Lawsuit Abuse Reform Coalition supports H.R. 420, the Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act (LARA). The LARA will help rein in frivolous lawsuits by: restoring mandatory sanctions on attorneys, law firms, or parties who file frivolous lawsuits; permitting monetary sanctions, including reimbursement of reasonable attorney's fees and litigation costs in connection with frivolous lawsuits; restoring the opportunity for sanctions for abuses of the discovery process (the process by which lawyers on each side of a case request information from the other side prior to trial); and ending unjustifiable forum shopping and stops litigation tourism.
     
    The Coalition for Affordable and Reliable Energy (CARE)
    A broad coalition of organizations representing thousands of businesses and individuals that support the development of a sound energy policy for America.
     
    The Coalition for the Future of Manufacturing
    The Coalition for the Future of Manufacturing is dedicated to raising awareness of the critical importance of a strong manufacturing base to American prosperity and the challenges facing U.S. manufacturers today, and to seeking pro-growth public policy changes that will ensure a vibrant U.S. manufacturing base in the future.
     
    The Coalition Supporting Access & Choice Through Association Health Plans
    The Coalition Supporting Access & Choice Through Association Health Plans is a coalition of associations representing over 12 million employers and 80 million workers that strongly support the Small Business Health Fairness Act of 2003.
     
    The Commodity Club
    The Commodity Club holds monthly luncheons on agricultural issues with speakers from the federal government.
     
    The Family Business Estate Tax Coalition
    The Family Business Estate Tax Coalition is dedicated to a full, permanent repeal of the federal estate tax, also known as the “death” tax.
     
    The National Association of Manufacturers Council of Manufacturing Associations
    The mission of the Council of Manufacturing Associations is to help develop legislative, regulatory, economic, and educational opportunities that further the interests and purposes of Council members.
     
    The Road Information Program
    TRIP is a nonprofit organization that promotes transportation policies that relieve traffic congestion, improve air quality, make highway travel safer and enhance economic productivity.
     
    The Transportation Construction Coalition
    The Transportation Construction Coalition (TCC) is a group of 27 national associations and labor unions with a direct market interest in the federal transportation programs. The primary goal of the coalition is to ensure that all highway user fees are invested to maintain and improve our nation’s transportation infrastructure.
     
    The Washington Agriculture Roundtable
    The Washington Agriculture Roundtable is comprised of industry and government representatives in Washington who meet on a monthly basis to hear federal and international government speakers on key agriculture-related topics.
     
    U.S. Chamber of Commerce Association Advisory Council
    Advisory Council members receive updates from administration officials in off the record roundtables, hear the very latest news on issues of specific industry interest at briefings, and formulate business’ national views in policy committees.
     
    Water Infrastructure Network
    The Water Infrastructure Network (WIN) is a broad-based coalition of local elected officials, drinking water and wastewater service providers, state environmental and health administrators, engineers and environmentalists dedicated to preserving and protecting the health, environmental and economic gains that America's drinking water and wastewater infrastructure provides.
     
  State Coalitions
    The Council of State Governments Associates Program
    CSG has long believed private sector involvement in the American governance system is critical in formulating sound solutions to public policy challenges. The CSG Associates Program facilitates interaction between government and the private sector by engaging government affairs professionals in its program and policy work, its national and regional conferences and its information network.
     
    The Legislative Agriculture Chairs
    The Legislative Agricultural Chairs brings together chairs of the state agriculture committees to learn more about pressing issues facing states on agriculture and rural development as well as meeting their counterparts in other state legislatures.
     
    Washington Area State Relations Group
    WASRG is a professional society offering monthly luncheons with policymakers or public officials with a connection to the states.
     
  International Coalitions
    American Business Coalition for Doha
    The American Business Coalition for Doha (ABCDOHA) brings together companies, associations and other organizations committed to building strong public support for continued leadership and progress in the current round of multilateral trade negotiations in the WTO, known as the Doha Round.
     
    Comprehensive Market Access Coalition
    The Comprehensive Market Access Coalition (CMAC) is based on the concept that trade agreements should represent the highest principles and result in the maximum benefit for all Americans.
     
    Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Capital Goods
    AEM serves on the Industry Trade Advisory Committee (ITAC) on Capital Goods of the U.S. Department of Commerce, which is comprised of representatives from a broad cross-section of the capital goods industry sector. Industry representatives serving on the Capital Goods ITAC provide the Administration with advice on trade policy matters.
     
    NAM Trade Forum
    AEM sponsors the National Association of Manufacturer’s Trade Forum, an off-the-record weekly meeting at which federal and international government officials discuss trade policy issues.
     
    The Coalition Against Counterfeiting and Piracy
    The Coalition Against Counterfeiting and Piracy (CACP) is committed to increasing the understanding of the negative impact of counterfeiting and piracy by working with Congress and the administration to drive greater government-wide efforts to address this threat.
     
    The Consuming Industries Trade Action Coalition Steel Task Force
    The CITAC Steel Task Force is a coalition of companies and organizations representing steel users, ports, and related industries in Washington. Its overall mission is to provide a voice to steel consuming manufacturers, their workers and their communities in the development of U.S. government policy on trade and other economic issues of concern to its members and to ensure that steel consumers’ interests are adequately considered in the development of U.S. trade policy.
     
    The Global Business Dialogue
    The Global Business Dialogue exists to serve the global business community and its members, and to help them identify and respond to issues of concern to companies, governments and communities.
     
    U.S.-Canadian Business Council
    The Council is the premier voice of the Canadian American business community in Washington. Established in 1987, the Council is a non-profit, issues-oriented organization dedicated to elevating the private sector perspective on issues that affect our two nations.
     
    U.S.-Middle East Free Trade Coalition
    The US-Middle East Free Trade Coalition has four primary objectives: 1) supporting the negotiation and conclusion of commercially meaningful free trade agreements between the United States and governments in the Middle East region; 2) providing unified and overarching US business leadership and commitment to the MEFTA vision; 3) establishing an umbrella business group to oversee and focus on the key components of MEFTA through a range of educational, advocacy, outreach, and other activities; and 4) providing an efficient, broad-based business mechanism and steady pool of corporate chairs to lead future bilateral FTA business coalition efforts.
     
    U.S.-Thailand FTA Business Coalition
    The US-Thailand FTA Business Coalition was formed in response to the announcement by President Bush and Prime Minister Thaksin of the intent to negotiate an free trade agreement between the U.S. and Thailand. The Coalition is strongly committed to a free trade agreement with Thailand and to promoting trade and investment between the two countries.
     
    United States - New Zealand Council
    The U.S. - New Zealand Council's mission is to foster and strengthen relations between the two countries in all areas.
     
    Zero Tariff Coalition
    The Zero Tariff Coalition is made up of companies and associations representing 25 major U.S. industry sectors who favor the complete, worldwide elimination of tariffs in their sectors. The primary focus of this group is the WTO Doha Round Industrial Market Access Talks.
