Association of Equipment Manufacturers

I Make America

Member Spotlight: Vermeer Corporation

As Bob Vermeer and Mary Vermeer Andringa noted in their Huffington Post opinion article, “Asking our policymakers to take an active role in protecting the jobs of millions of American workers by opening closed trading markets across the globe for American-made equipment is far from 'any means necessary.' It's simply the right thing to do.” And so they did. The Vermeer Corporation developed a video for the campaign detailing the day-to-day work of Pella, Iowa employee Josh Gott, which was chosen to be featured at the launch of I Make America in Washington, D.C. in front of policymakers and major media outlets.

Following Josh's trip to our nation's capitol, Vermeer Corporation executives created an e-newsletter announcing the I Make America campaign and asking their employees and vendors to support the movement by signing up online. The email was sent to 2,000 employees and placed on more than 500 dealership websites, resulting in an immediate bounce in campaign membership.

But the Vermeer Corporation knows that in order to successfully convince our elected officials that supporting pro-manufacturing policies will create and stabilize jobs in our country, the industry must continue to actively participate in the campaign. A one-time email to employees and stakeholders would not be enough to illicit maximum support and participation. So Vermeer CEO Mary Andringa made certain to include the I Make America campaign in the company's annual year-end meeting in front of 2,000 employees, reconfirming Vermeer's support of the campaign and encouraging the audience to take part by signing up at www.IMakeAmerica.com. Additionally, Vermeer produced an article about their participation in the I Make America campaign in the January 2011 edition of Powerline, the company newsletter.
