Who Can Enter

The awards program is open to off-road equipment manufacturers and industry service providers (agriculture, construction, forestry, mining, utility) – both AEM members and non-members, but non-members must meet AEM member eligibility criteria. Agencies may submit entries on behalf of clients who are AEM members or eligible for membership.

To encourage broad participation, entries will be judged in two divisions, based on company sales revenue, one for $50-million-and-under and one for over-$50-million. Please check the appropriate division on the entry form. (If no division is checked, entry will be put in over-$50-million division.)

Here's the Time Frame

Entries must have appeared during 2008 or 4th Quarter 2007.

What You Can (and Can't) Enter

The categories are: Direct Mail, Magazine Ads, Press Kits and Product Literature. Read on for details:

  • Direct Mail – Single piece
  • Direct Mail – Campaign

NOTE: All direct mail entries must be "purpose-created" and identify event or program, as opposed to a general "who we are" mailer. No inserts, newsletters or seminar brochures.

  • Product Literature

NOTE: This category includes both single pieces and multiple pieces as part of a series.

  • Press Kits

NOTE: These entries will be judged by industry editors. Press kits should relate to a product announcement or a specific event or function, not a general "who we are" type of kit. Any entries using CDs should run upon opening automatically or have clear operating instructions. If we can't open it, we cannot judge it.

  • Magazine Ads – Single
  • Magazine Ads – Series

NOTES for magazine categories:

  • Ads in single category can be full page or fractional.
  • Ads must have run for the first time during the eligible time period.
  • Must have appeared in an industry publication that is an AEM member or eligible for membership.
  • No ad inserts or advertorials.
  • Ads in a series should have common objective, audience and strategy, and entry should include at least two representative ads.
  • The same ad cannot be entered in more than one category.
  • May submit a good quality laser print or actual ad for entry. (See below section on tear sheets.)
  • Tear Sheets – Must be Provided with Entry!

Include a tear sheet for each ad submitted to show publication within eligible time frame. Identify publication name and issue date if not on tear sheet. If your ad entry also serves as tear sheet(s), be sure to copy (both sides) before affixing to board and indicate publication name and issue date.

PICA has discretion to disqualify entries which do not meet the category criteria and to reassign division based on member dues category.

Statement of Objectives

All entries must be accompanied by the following: A brief statement summarizing the marketing/advertising objective(s), including target audience (be specific), communications strategy and measurable or documented results. Entries will be judged on a number of criteria, including overall effectiveness, how well stated objectives were achieved, clarity of message as well as visual impact and production values.

How to Prepare Your Entry

Mount each entry on black mat board that is large enough to also affix your entry form. If your entry has several items, you may use multiple boards. Materials with multiple pages or pieces may also be inserted in a clear pocket or envelope pasted to the board. Do not use oversize boards unless your entry is oversized. Do not include materials that are not an integral part of your entry.

A completed entry form must be attached to each entry. Paste Part A to the front of your entry and Part B to the back of your entry and also include a copy of the complete entry form separately.

You may photocopy the form. View the entry form (PDF format).

Judging

An impartial panel of judges (industry, business, and academic marketing communications professionals) will be appointed by PICA. Judges may eliminate any entry that does not conform to the rules of the competition. Judges' decisions will be final.

Entries will be judged on a number of criteria, including overall effectiveness, how well stated objectives were achieved, clarity of message as well as visual impact and production values. The number of awards conferred in each Division and Category will be determined by the judges.

Return Policy

Sorry, entries cannot be returned.

Rights of Reproduction

PICA reserves the right to reproduce any entry and to quote from the accompanying statement of objectives.
