Construction jobs, spending show little change in latest month but rise from year ago
Nonfarm payroll employment rose in April by 115,000, seasonally adjusted, and the unemployment rate fell from 8.2% in March to 8.1% (7.7%, not seasonally adjusted). Construction spending in March totaled $809 billion at a seasonally adjusted annual rate, up 0.1% from the downwardly revised February total and up 6.0% from March 2011. Employment increased in 267 out of 372 metropolitan areas from March 2011 to March 2012, decreased in 96 and remained flat in nine, BLS reported on Wednesday.
