Asphalt Paver Testing
The Bituminous and Aggregate Equipment Bureau (BAEB) is considering support of field testing of asphalt equipment as the next step in implementation of industrywide voluntary fume controls guidelines.
BAEB members worked in a cooperative effort with end-users (through the National Asphalt Pavement Association), labor and the federal government to develop the "Engineering Control Guidelines for Hot Mix Asphalt Pavers," which aim to reduce the amount of fumes present at the operator station for the driver and personnel working alongside the paver.
BAEB will act on behalf of manufacturers as the engineering controls partners prepare to collect field data on reduction of fumes under working conditions. The field data will then be compared to permissible level data to confirm the effectiveness of the guidelines.
