Educational Update
ConstructMyFuture.com
Industry careers website launched
A major focus of CIMA activity in recent months has been the hands-on development of a website which promotes the construction industry
as a rewarding career choice.
The website - www.ConstructMyFuture.com - is now online and is receiving rave reviews
from site visitors.
The construction careers website provides information and job opportunities in the construction industry and is targeted to teenagers as
well as their teachers, counselors and parents.
CIMA partnered with the Associated Equipment Distributors Foundation (AEDF) and Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) to
develop the site.
"A Career Without Limits"
ConstructMyFuture.com shows how the construction industry can offer "a career without limits" and is "an industry without
boundaries."
The website uses colorful graphics to appeal to the teen audience and conveys useful information in an easy-to-navigate format.
"We designed the site to showcase the career opportunities in today's high-tech construction industry and to be an interactive tool
for students, teachers, counselors and parents," commented CIMA's Nicole Ketchman.
Industry Resources Outlined
A special section targets teachers and counselors to help them connect to companies and other resources they can use to explore industry
opportunities with students or find useful information. The website also helps parents understand the scope of the construction
industry.
"Teachers, counselors and parents play an important role guiding students to career paths, and we wanted to appeal to these
individuals so they can exert a positive influence on students thinking about a construction career," stated AEDF's Frank
Giannelli.

Education Database
ConstructMyFuture.com outlines career options available in constructing, distribution and equipment manufacturing, with information that
includes job descriptions, career path sequences, educational requirements and salary ranges.
A special feature is a database of more than 1,000 post-secondary schools offering programs in construction trades and equipment
technology, organized by state and with Web links to the schools.
A "Cool Stuff" section provides information on the world's greatest construction projects, industry leaders and innovations,
and other industry facts and figures presented in a teen-friendly manner.
Enlisting Teachers' Help
"Our industry needs thousands of highly-skilled people to utilize the new efficiencies and technologies to build everything from
homes to highways and skyscrapers. We haven't adequately communicated this new image, and most students don't realize what our industry
has to offer," noted CIMA's Nicole Ketchman.
The ConstructMyFuture.com section targeted to teachers includes a listing of industry companies who have volunteered their services to
local students and schools, and also provides links to industry organizations and resources as well as access to industry job boards.
"Instructors often have difficulty finding resources for their classrooms and for developing their programs and curriculum. Our
website connects them to companies who have volunteered to offer their services and provides links to other industry resources and
materials," stated AEDF's Frank Giannelli.
Site Set to Expand Information and Links
This is the first phase of the ConstructMyFuture.com website. The site will serve as a dynamic source for students, educators and
parents as new information is posted along with updates to the current material.
"We want to be an interactive medium connecting students, teachers, counselors and parents to the informational tools they can use
to better understand the enormous scope and accomplishments of the construction industry and the truly satisfying career opportunities
available," added AGC's Stephen Sandherr.
The website has received widespread interest. Within a few days of the first e-mail alert, the site registered more than 3,250 visitors,
spending an average nine minutes on the site.
