A Snapshot Look: CIMA's 2001 Legislative Priorities
Transportation-related issues, elimination of the death tax, and trade-promotion concerns continue to top CIMA's government-affairs agenda.
Here's a snapshot look at CIMA's 2001 legislative priorities.
- Support full funding of highway and airport authorizations. Congress must provide the maximum amount
of authorized funding for highway and airport construction programs.
- Protect budgetary and funding provisions of TEA-21 and AIR-21. Oppose any changes to the budgetary
protection provisions enacted for the Highway and Airport Trust Funds.
- Support broad-based tax relief including the repeal of the death tax. Congress should enact
broad-based, pro-growth, pro-productivity tax relief.
- Support trade promotion authority. Congress should enhance the ability of the Administration to
negotiate trade agreements.
- Reauthorize and fully fund the Export-Import Bank. The Export-Import Bank should be reauthorized and
fully funded to provide financing support for US. exporters.
- Reauthorization of the highway and airport program. The foundation for reauthorization of these vital
infrastructure programs in 2003 should begin by educating elected officials and the public on the benefits and future needs of the
highway and airport systems.

product liability reform.
- Support development of a comprehensive national energy policy. Support legislation to develop a new,
