Issues Update European Regulations
Recent European regulatory measures are impacting equipment design for noise emissions and fluid pressures as well as selection of export packing materials.
Noise Directive
The Noise Directive is applicable to more than 50 categories of machines. |
|
The new European Directive regulating noise emissions by outdoor equipmentcommonly referred to as the EU Noise Directivebecame the law of the European Community on January 3, 2002. The directive is applicable to more than 50 categories of machines.
Guidelines for the directive were published in December 2001 to assist both manufacturers and users in applying the directive. The complete text of both the directive and the guidelines are available online through the AEM website (www.aem.org).
Also available are the discussion materials from two seminars AEM conducted last year concerning the directive and draft guidelines.
Pressure Equipment Directive
The EU Pressure Equipment Directive could impact the design of many liquid containment machine components. |
|
The EU Pressure Equipment Directive known as the PED becomes mandatory on May 29, 2002. This Directive could impact the design of many liquid containment machine components, from heat exchangers to accumulators.
Wood Packing Materials
The EU recently imposed emergency measures requiring fumigation or heat treatment of certain types of wood packing and crating materials used for shipments into Europe. This was done in an effort to avoid introduction of pests into the EU, and affects shipments arriving from the U.S., Canada, China and Japan.
AEM has provided members with early alert information on these measures and is available to assist members with specific inquiries on the subject.
