AEM leads industry coalition for equipment electronics standardization

equipment manufacturing community with a booth at the Agricultural Equipment Technology Conference (AETC) in
Louisville, KY earlier this year. Pictured is Ed Heck of AEM member HED. |

AEM has formed a new group to provide members with the opportunity to advance international off-road equipment electronics
standardization wherever practical.
The association is promoting implementation of standardized ISOBUS-type CAN systems in North America, taking a leadership role in an
industrywide effort to address this important machinery design issue that will enable equipment and attachments to communicate more
effectively.
Outreach Efforts
The North American ISO-BUS Implementation Task Force (NAIITF) is conducting an outreach effort to involve equipment manufacturers in the
standardization process, supporting the work of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and its ISO 11783 series of
electronic communication standards, which has been under development for the past decade.
AEM provides administration, online resources and organizational oversight for NAIITF. Sam Freesmeyer of member AGCO Corp. is NAIITF
chairman.
New Website an Educational Tool
The group has developed a comprehensive NAIITF website as an informational and educational tool to
support its efforts. The site is hosted in the Technical section of the AEM website.
Information Sharing
Interoperability, certification and voluntary compliance as well as promoting awareness of ISOBUS standardization issues are priority
areas that NAIITF is working to address.
NAIITF has declared its intention to work with the European Implementation Group ISOBUS as well as the Ag Electronics Association,
sharing documents, planning joint meetings and promoting common verification and certification requirements.
