AEM Canada opens January 1, 2004
The Association has established a Canadian presence by incorporating the operations of the Canadian Farm & Industrial Equipment Institute (CFIEI).
AEM-Canada will provide a broader range of services not only to agricultural equipment manufacturers but also to all AEM members doing business or with operations in Canada.
The incorporation, which was initiated by CFIEI, is effective January 1, 2004. All CFIEI members will automatically become AEM members. CFIEI members will continue to receive existing services as well as the expanded support provided by AEM.
“Through the support of AEM, CFIEI members will receive added value from an increase in the services they can access. CFIEI members will also benefit from the synergy created through their increased ability to share common concerns and questions with their peers in all segments of the equipment industry served by AEM,” said CFIEI Chairman Brian Martin (CNH Canada).
Public Policy Focus
A key agenda item for AEM-Canada is providing enhanced service in the area of public policy, with an emphasis on provincial and national regulatory, legislative and trade issues.
The AEM Canadian office will also be involved in trade show activities, market statistics, technical and safety issues and information services.
“AEM-Canada will help the full scope of the association’s membership compete more effectively in the Canadian marketplace by acting as a liaison to help the equipment manufacturing industry communicate its interests and viewpoints through a single industry voice,” stated AEM Chairman Ronald DeFeo (Terex Corp.)
Ag Trade Show Support
In related activity, a major focus of AEM is expansion of services for ag equipment manufacturers, including the support of trade shows. AEM-Canada will play a key role here, evaluating Canadian trade shows of possible interest.
Members to Guide Operations
The operations of AEM-Canada will be overseen by the association’s newly formed Canadian Equipment Council, which will act as a liaison to the Board and provide policy recommendations to ensure that AEM-Canada services most effectively meet members’ business needs.
This council will be comprised of AEM members who have operations or do business in Canada.
Smooth Transition
CFIEI President Brent Hamre will serve as AEM’s Canadian-based representative during a transitional period to help ensure smooth operations with no interruption of services. He will be based out of the AEM-Canada office.
AEM Vice President of Government Affairs Nick Yaksich will be the association’s staff liaison to the Canadian Equipment Council. For more information, contact AEM’s Nick Yaksich at 202-898-9065, nyaksich@aem.org.
