The year ahead: action agenda
Commentary by AEM President Dennis Slater
AEM has successfully moved from our consolidation’s 2002 transition year to a focused, unified organization in 2003. Your volunteer AEM leadership – officers, board, and council, bureau and committee members – and your dedicated staff played key roles in this success.
Goals: Improve, Offer New Services
With this strong foundation, your staff’s 2004 action priorities: improve current programs (including more member participation) and offer new services and activities. Here’s a brief overview.
Our new Global Public Policy Committee will help us better identify and initiate action involving trade, regulations and legislation not only in Canada and the U.S. but also worldwide.
With the consolidation of CFIEI into AEM, we have established AEM-Canada and the Canadian Equipment Council and will expand services to all membership segments with business interests related to this important marketplace.
And, our new Ag Equipment Council will facilitate an increase in services and membership, with representation in ag equipment shows a priority.
The formation this year of a first-ever ICUEE Management Committee will improve planning in areas such as exhibit space policies and procedures to ensure that this premier demo exposition reaches its full potential to serve exhibitors and attendees.
We continue to prepare for CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2005 and planning to date indicates that exhibitor and attendee interest is very high.
Statistics Integration Proceeds
In statistics, we will expand participation in and complete integration of existing programs, explore new member data programs, focus on more comprehensive delivery of statistical data and examine our costs to provide the best value to members.
Our technical activities will provide a higher level of support to association product groups. We will continue to take a lead role on safety and emissions issues and expand involvement addressing international standards issues.
Our education programs will build upon the success of this year’s conferences and include a supply chain management program from our Supplier Council.
Our industry-liaison activities will include a DC fly-in for members of AEM, AED and NAEDA. And, our expanded international services will provide market support for all industry sectors, including China, India, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
We will conduct focus groups in follow-up to our first-ever AEM member survey going out shortly. We will also complete a new dues structure plan to take effect for 2005 and the end of the three-year consolidation dues freeze.
And, we will develop and initiate a plan for more timely communications to members, including more Advisor-style updates delivered electronically. We will keep you informed of new developments, and, as always, we welcome your comments and feedback.
In closing, look to 2004 to build upon our successful 2003 year, as we deliver the best services and activities possible.
