International marketing services help members’ develop global business
|
AEM and the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products have pledged cooperation on trade issues. |
AEM’s international market development activities provided members with first-hand information on customer needs, industry trends and business opportunities.
The association’s Latin America Desk and China office provided more than 125 market related services to members and produced more than 70 market research reports in 2003. These included an equipment specifications list of the 100 largest Chinese construction projects underway or in the planning stages and the first in a series of regional statistical reports on China’s agricultural sector.
In-Country Meetings
AEM also conducted several in-country meetings with key industry groups and government officials in Brazil, Chile, China and Mexico to strengthen strategic alliances for the benefit of members.
New this year was development of a newsletter targeting construction and ag markets in Russia and other countries that were part of the old Soviet Union.
China Reverse Trade Mission
In August, AEM facilitated a two-week reverse trade mission for about a dozen Chinese trade officials visiting the U.S. under the auspices of the U.S. Dept. of Commerce. Plant tours and product demonstrations by member manufacturers were a major component of the mission. More than 20 members participated.
In November, the association conducted a successful technical seminar in Beijing, China focused on equipment sales opportunities related to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. More than 18 manufacturers used the opportunity to showcase their products and capabilities to a select audience (more than 50 contractors) of influential equipment specifiers and buyers.
Agreement Signed
In September, the association hosted a delegation of Chinese trade officials to the U.S. to discuss and sign a Memorandum of Understanding that pledged cooperation on trade issues. The major concern was used equipment import and rental investment policies.
AEM also signed a Memorandum of Mutual Cooperation with SOBRATEMA, the Brazilian construction trade group.
