State focus: Progress on ag lighting/marking regulations

AEM is leading a nationwide effort to harmonize the states’ regulations governing the lighting and marking of agriculture tractors and implements while in operation on public roads.

The association is promoting the adoption of state regulations that reflect the most up-to-date lighting and marking standards of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE S.298). The ASAE standards are the result of a years-long consensus process to develop technologically feasible guidelines for agricultural equipment.

The movement within states to create harmonized regulations for agricultural equipment in line with ASAE safety standards will enhance public safety as well as facilitate interstate transactions for manufacturers.

Indiana Rulemaking Sought

Recent AEM action focused on Indiana, where the association provided detailed background material and testified at two public hearings in the Indiana state legislature.

The association was previously successful working in Illinois and Ohio to develop regulations that reference the ASAE standards.
