Parts policies, training surveys highlight customer support trends
| Tracking industry trends |
AEM’s equipment data tracking and forecasting tools help members assess their performance against the industry, spot potential markets for their products and assist in company business planning.
If you have questions or want to participate in a survey, or have suggestions for additional surveys, contact AEM’s Antoinette Vnuk

The association is now conducting surveys of equipment manufacturing parts operations and training practices to provide useful customer-support trends and benchmarking data to member participants. Both surveys cover agriculture and construction.
The survey results will be disseminated in conjunction with the association’s annual Customer Support Conference, to be held October 3-6 in San Antonio, TX. Only survey participants receive the full report(s).
Parts, Operations and Policies Data
Parts operations can be one of the most profitable areas of an equipment manufacturer’s business, and for the past 20 years AEM has compiled data on parts department organizational issues into an industry-wide report.
The association conducts two types of parts surveys to provide members with targeted information: one covers manufacturers of whole machines; the other, manufacturers of supplies, components and attachments.
The biennial AEM surveys provide detailed information on industry parts policies and practices in areas including distributor practices, distributor performance criteria, technology/communications issues, assessment of future expenditures, packaging, surplus handling, back order performance and other industry criteria.
Training Issues
AEM is also conducting a “training best practices” survey to help companies analyze how their training programs compare to others in the industry and help assess the role of training as a sales tool.
The 2004 edition is an update to a survey the association conducted in 2000. Survey topic areas cover dealer, company and end-user training; sales and product support; service and technical training; parts training; and operator and safety training.
