Technical Update
Pump manufacturers developing noise emissions measurement
Noise emission levels of pumps have become an important factor in the purchasing decision for contractors, and AEM’s Contractors Pump Bureau (CPB) has initiated a customer-focused effort to standardize the way pump manufacturers measure sound created by their products.
With the uniform data provided by the CPB noise measurement standard, customers will be able to make more informed comparisons of one product to another.
Product Evaluation Tool
In developing the standard, CPB will address all facets of the sound measurement process to provide a straightforward and repeatable measurement technique that can be used for all pumps, but will be particularly useful for customer evaluation of noise-attenuated pumps, which are marketed for their noise-reduction qualities.
Another goal of the AEM bureau is to integrate its standard with those that are required by the European Union Noise Directive.
The next CPB meeting on the standard is planned for the summer of 2004. For more information, contact AEM’s Russ Hutchison (414-298-4118).
