AEM Chilean Reverse Trade Mission a Success Promoting Members, CONEXPO-CON/AGG

Chilean construction contractors and equipment buyers in AEM’s recent reverse trade mission came away impressed with the capabilities of AEM member manufacturers and enthusiastic about participating in CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2014, including organizing delegations to the show.
AEM member companies who signed up for the trade mission had the opportunity to present 20-minute product presentations to the Chileans and meet with them individually during a daylong event at AEM headquarters in Milwaukee. Sign-up was on a first-come, first-served basis and limited to three companies in each of the product categories that had been specified by the Chileans: earthmoving and paving equipment as well as cranes. Companies could also sign up for a networking reception that evening. After the Monday events, the Chilean contingent spent the rest of the week touring five factories of their choice in the Midwest region.
AEM worked with the Chilean Chamber of Construction on the trade mission; it is an example of AEM working to provide members with global business opportunities and direct exposure to customers both in the U.S. and internationally, not only at AEM-run trade shows such as CONEXPO-CON/AGG but in the time between shows.
CONEXPO-CON/AGG was a significant feature of the trade mission. AEM gave a presentation to the Chileans on the 2014 show and benefits of attending, and it sponsored an evening event for the group to further the trade mission’s relationship building and dialog.
The Chileans said they felt they received the information they sought and appreciated the high-level atmosphere of the event. The contractors were very interested in delegations to CONEXPO-CON/AGG and the opportunity to see the new products, technology and innovations as well as building relationship with industry leaders.
Carlos Zeppelin, president of the public works infrastructure committee of the Chilean Construction Chamber, best summed it up: “On this trip U.S. manufacturers showed us how they can adjust their products to fit the specific needs of our contractors. This has been very exciting to see this kind of willingness to perform customer service. And we are looking forward to bringing even more contractors to CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2014 to experience this for themselves.”
