Amid Regulatory Concerns, AEM Signs Extension with OECD Tractor Test Agreement
AEM ag members’ concern for regulatory equipment requirements in global markets could get a little relief with a recently signed five-year extension with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to be the U.S. Third Party Review Agency for conducting official OECD agricultural tractor tests. The “university has served since 1987 as the Third Party Review Agency ... testing agricultural tractors,” according to the Memorandum of Understanding between AEM and the University of Nebraska.
The OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) Tractor Test Codes are uniform, worldwide test procedures for agricultural tractors for the measurement of performance, operator protection (ROPS) and noise levels. Tests are conducted at the request of tractor manufacturers by officially recognized third party test stations in many countries, including the U.S.
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has served as the U.S. Third Party Review Agency to conduct and oversee official OECD agricultural tractor tests since 1987. AEM and the university have agreed to extend this designation through at least 2017.
AEM is the U.S. voting member for the worldwide OECD Tractor Test Codes organization. The U.S. OECD Coordinating Committee, consisting of AEM tractor manufacturing representatives, Nebraska Tractor Test Board members and a U.S. Department of Commerce representative, serves as the coordinating and oversight body for OECD tractor testing in the U.S.
