AEM Annual Conference – A Can’t Miss Event

AEM’s Annual Conference receives rave reviews from attendees each year. For 2012, with the changes recommended by member companies for a new streamlined program, we are determined to yet again exceed expectations.
In this presidential election year, public policy will be top-of-mind as our annual conference starts the day after the U.S. elects its president to serve for the next four years. Election results will be discussed by two people who have been close confidantes of presidents: Robert Gibbs, longtime advisor to Barack Obama, and Karl Rove, former deputy chief of staff and senior advisor to George W. Bush. They will share information on how newly elected representatives at every level of government will affect your business. With the ever-increasing role of government in defining the size of our market, this will be a valuable debate.
Our annual conference will focus on much more than political debate; our other speakers on the agenda will provide substance and thought-stimulating insights. Here’s a glimpse of what you can look forward to:
Opening keynote presenter Brad Meltzer is a story-teller par excellence as an author and the host of the History Channel’s “Decoded.” From Thomas Jefferson to the Wright Brothers, Meltzer learned that stories are the best way to ultimately reveal what each of us is capable of on our very best days. Meltzer will explore how you can “Attain your vision: Tap the power within you to succeed.”
Peter Zeihan, vice president of analysis for STRATFOR, will share his fresh and compelling insights into geo-politics, economic power and the changing world order, especially in emerging markets. Zeihan has been featured in and cited by numerous media, including CNN, FOX News, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Bloomberg and MarketWatch.
Carl Cannon’s presentation brings a heartfelt yet pragmatic note to our program. Cannon, of the Peoria Park District, devotes his life to helping at-risk children turn their lives around to become positive young adults who now contribute to the workforce needs of our industries. He is from an at-risk background and knows first-hand what is needed to make a difference.
Sam Allen, chairman and CEO of Deere & Company, will speak on the risks and rewards of serving a growing global population. The need for food, shelter and infrastructure will increase dramatically in coming years, and Allen will help us consider the challenges facing manufacturers in meeting those needs. He will also share John Deere’s plans to capitalize on the growing world population’s needs through an unprecedented wave of global expansion and investment.
Another can’t-miss presentation is “Be prepared: Emerging trends that will affect our industry” as panelists discuss the effects of multiple economic trends. You’ll hear how developments in housing, capital expenditures, commodity prices, imports and exports, interest rates and yield estimates will influence the course of our industries. Our esteemed panel includes:
- Don Johnson, chief economist, Caterpillar Inc.
- J.B. Penn, chief economist, Deere & Company
- Andy Kaplowitz, vice president, Barclays Capital/Lehman Brothers
- Matt Simon, Portfolio Manager for Global Equities
You’ll have to make some tough choices about which conference breakout session to attend – we have three information-packed sessions:
- Jake Gaylord of Almon Inc. will cover intellectual property rights, an important issue for member companies.
- Brian Barlow of BMG will talk about changes in the construction industry brought by the green movement toward sustainable infrastructure.
- Julian Archer of Infor will discuss a holistic approach to performance and profits: manufacturing and aftermarket service used to improve equipment performance, customer value and profitability.
You will also see a fresh perspective for AEM’s Annual Business Meeting, as we use a streamlined yet comprehensive approach to share updates on AEM services and programs on behalf of the membership. You’ll hear the many ways AEM can advance your business through key action areas such as market statistics and information; standards, safety and regulatory input; public policy outreach (including our I Make America grassroots campaign); and our trade shows, plus global business development and industry education offerings.
We’ll also have a special “Get engaged with AEM” session to help companies get the most out of their membership by more fully using the many services we provide.
And we’ll introduce more details on implementation of our ambitious new AEM Strategic Plan, which will bring you even more value as an AEM member.
The AEM Annual Conference is where the equipment manufacturing industry gathers to compare notes on business trends, and refresh themselves for the coming year. Our networking opportunities include the AEMPAC auction and dinner and the closing finale with the AEM Hall of Fame celebration – we’ve added refinements to both from member input to increase the value to attendees.
The AEMPAC political action committee is an important aspect of our public policy activities, and the “Academy Awards Night” themed AEMPAC gala (Thursday, November 8) will include a live auction, drawings for door prizes throughout the evening, and of course lots of delicious food and drink. Our finale reception and dinner (Friday, November 9) will include some great entertainment and the inspiring induction ceremony and celebration for the latest industry leaders to join the AEM Hall of Fame. And if your schedule permits, I encourage you to take advantage of the additional networking in our Saturday, November 10 golf tourney and other optional activities.
We think you will appreciate what we have planned, and we look forward to having you onsite to see for yourself. Join us at the Terranea Los Angeles’ Oceanfront Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California for the conference.
