AEM is tracking plans by Ukraine to raise rates on 371 tariff lines, including agricultural machinery, and plans to relay objections from equipment manufacturers to the U.S. government. Ukraine is the seventh largest importer of U.S. agricultural equipment.
A total of 23 World Trade Organization delegations, including the U.S., urged Ukraine to withdraw its notification to renegotiate its tariffs prior to the expiration of the standard 90-day notification period. December 11, 2012, marked the end of the notification period and Ukraine still intends to increase its tariff rates on agricultural machinery.
While the U.S. government and international trade community continue to put pressure on Ukraine, industry must make their voices heard.
AEM asks member companies whose business in Ukraine has been negatively affected to please contact Alex Russ (firstname.lastname@example.org, tel: 202-898-9006) in AEM’s Washington, D.C., office.
