Manitowoc Sany patent complaint reveals crawler plans
US manufacturer Manitowoc has filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission, complaining that Sany's SCC 8500 crawler infringes on two patents, related to Manitowoc's Variable Position Counterweight (VPC), and claiming that Sany targeted Manitowoc's employee John Lanning, now Sany's global head of crawler crane development, based on his knowledge of the technology.

Steelworkers Approve Cat Mining Contract
United Steelworkers Local 1434 members at Caterpillar Inc.'s plant in South Milwaukee, Wis. have voted to accept a six-year labor contract that freezes wages and pensions but includes a $4000 signing bonus and shortens temporary layoffs, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Fecon Hosts Berry Intermediate Students at Manufacturing Facility
Fecon recently hosted a group of 440 students from Berry Intermediate School, giving them a firsthand look at highly lucrative engineering careers available within the manufacturing arena. The sixth grade students watched engineers perform computer aided design and analysis and then witnessed automated welding machinery and learned about the math required to program it. All of this underscored the importance of math and science, even at the junior high school level.
