Komatsu restructures Japanese operations
ForkliftAction.com (May 14, 2008) - Komatsu Utility Co Ltd is investing JPY3.2 billion (USD30.7 million) to restructure its Japanese operations in a bid to boost production and operational efficiency. Komatsu will transfer the production of mini hydraulic excavators from the Kawagoe plant in Saitama prefecture to the Tochigi plant, to consolidate domestic production. Komatsu Utility will also relocate its head office from Tokyo to Tochigi to promote operational efficiency.

Survey: US maintains edge in competitiveness
AP via Yahoo (May 15, 2008) - The United States topped world competitiveness rankings for the 15th straight year, but its economy is showing the same signs of weakness that sank booming Japan in the early 1990s, according to an annual survey released Thursday.

Reuters via Yahoo (May 16, 2008) - The United States should cut barriers to its markets to help it tackle economic turmoil, and boost exports to deal with its current account deficit, the World Trade Organisation (WTO) said.

Vale to spend US$4.4 billion on iron ore expansion in 2008
Mining Journal (May 13, 2008) - Cia Vale do Rio Doce (Vale), the world`s biggest iron ore producer, is due to invest US$4.4 billion this year to expand its iron ore business and boost output by 50% by 2013, the company said.

Central bank: China's economy won't see galloping inflation
