Construction jobs, spending hit highest levels since early 2010, helped by mild weather
Nonfarm payroll employment rose by 243,000, seasonally adjusted, in January, and by 1,953,000 (1.5%) over the past 12 months. Construction spending in December reached a 20-month high of $816 billion at a seasonally adjusted annual rate, an increase of 1.5% from November and 4.3% from December 2010. Seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment increased in 239 metropolitan areas from December 2010 to December 2011 (not seasonally adjusted), decreased in 127, and remained unchanged in 6.

It's official: Highway Trust Fund will be dry by end of FY 2014
To no one's surprise in the transportation industry, the federal Highway Trust Fund is on the brink of bankruptcy. The Congressional Budget Office released a report on Jan. 31 that said the pot used for road and bridge construction will indeed by empty by the end of FY 2014.
