| EPA Tier 4 Emissions Regulations |
The EPA has set emission standards for engines used in most construction, agricultural, and industrial equipment. They have also adopted nonroad diesel fuel requirements to decrease the allowable levels of sulfur (500 parts per million, or ppm, sulfur maximum) fuel, which can damage advanced emission control technologies. The most recent nonroad engine and fuel regulations complement similarly stringent regulations for diesel highway trucks and buses and highway diesel fuel for 2007. This is the first step of the EPA's Nonroad Diesel Rule, with the eventual goal of reducing the sulfur level of fuel for these engines to meet an ultra-low standard (15 ppm) enabling new advanced emission-control technologies.
EPA has adopted a national program to reduce emissions from future nonroad diesel engines by integrating engine and fuel controls as a system to gain the greatest emission reductions. To meet these emission standards, engine manufacturers will produce new engines with advanced emission-control technologies similar to those already used for on-road equipment.

(7/24/2008) White Paper-Tier 4 Engine Emission Symbols |
| |
This white paper describes the findings of an industry-wide group, convened by AEM. The purpose of this group was to identify a common set of symbols for use in off-road Tier 4 applications, in particular, symbols relative to Tier 4 aftertreatment. The intent is to provide common symbols for customers and end-users so that regardless of the OEM machine, the customer will interface with consistent symbols.
