World Manufacturer Code (WMC)

The non-road mobile equipment standard to provide guidance for equipment identification numbers is ISO 10261 Earth-moving machinery - Product identification numbering system, overseen by the ISO Technical Committee, ISO/TC 127, Earth-moving machinery. This standard references obtaining a World Manufacturer Code (WMC) defined as consisting of three alphanumeric characters to be part of the product identification number (PIN) for off-highway equipment. Each WMC is unique to a manufacturer.

Off-highway equipment may include, but is not limited to, the following: crawler tractors, crawler loaders, four-wheel drive loaders, scrapers, motor graders, light maintainers, haulers, wheel dozers, crawler excavators, wheel excavators, road construction equipment, rough terrain lift trucks and agricultural equipment.

Anyone seeking to establish a WMC listing must submit a completed request form. Upon approval, you will receive confirmation of the assigned WMC along with information regarding Check Letter (CL) calculation and the selected WMC will be added to the master listing.

Please refer to the following documents that include the WMC request form and request form instructions. The existing WMC Master List shows assigned codes already in use and therefore unavailable.

Completed applications should be emailed to: wmcadmin@aem.org.

Note: The latest version of ISO 10261 is 2021.
