Renee PetersAEM’s Renee Peters was recently recognized by BizTimes Media as one of its Notable Women in Finance for 2020.

Peters, AEM’s vice president and chief financial officer, was recently profiled in the Sept. 14-27 edition of the Milwaukee BizTimes, which showcased accomplished finance professionals throughout southeastern Wisconsin. The 10 leaders profiled were nominated by work and community peers, and they serve to represent the diversity of talent in the greater Milwaukee area and stand as examples for future generations of finance professionals.

“I am truly honored to be recognized by BizTimes Media as a Notable Woman in Finance in southeastern Wisconsin, alongside so many other amazing and accomplished women. Thank you to my peers who nominated me, to the whole AEM team who has supported me the last 14 years, and to our volunteer leaders for their guidance,” said Peters.

“While the honor named me personally, my professional successes have been made possible by the support of my family, both at home and at work,” she continued. “I hope other women will be inspired by the stories of all of the honorees and can achieve similar successes of their own.”

As vice president and CFO at AEM, Peters works closely with AEM’s president, treasurer, Finance Committee and Board of Directors to make sure that the organization’s consolidated financial reports are reliable and complete, ensuring a strong financial position for the Association. Passing the annual financial audits for AEM and its subsidiaries is key to financial credibility with the AEM Board and business affiliates. As CFO, Peters also has responsibility for cash management, forecasting, budgeting, strategic planning, expense control and leadership.

Peters has been employed as AEM's CFO since 2014. She joined the association in January of 2006 and held various progressive positions in the Accounting Department. She holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and her professional career began with Grant Thornton (formerly Alexander Grant & Co.) in Madison.

After she obtained her CPA license in 1985, Peters held various positions in several industries, including financial institutions, government, real estate, non-profit and CFO services.
