Colombia's national infrastructure agency (ANI) has awarded the tender for the Bogotá-Girardot PPP highway expansion, involving 145km of third lanes.

The construction contract was won by a consortium made up of units of Colombia's Conconcreto for investment of 1.71tn pesos (US$545mn).

"Five consortiums were interested in carrying out the works; the national government through ANI reviewed each one of theproposals and selected the company that has certified it can meet the technical, quality and economic requirements to guarantee... the first six-lane highway in Colombia," said vice president Germán Vargas Lleras in a press release.

Part of the government's public-private partnership efforts, the winner was Estructura Plural Vías a Girardot, made up of Industrial Conconcreto SAS (30%) and Constructora Conconcreto SA (70%).

"The virtue of developing projects under the PPP model is that the state doesn't spend money to execute the works," said Vargas Lleras.
