Paraguay's public works and communications ministry (MOPC) announced the opening of the economic bid for the turnkey contract for the route 9 improvement works, known as the Transchaco route.
The US$596mn proposal was presented by the sole bidder for the project, Mota Engil Ingeniería y Construcción Paraguay.
The project is the largest turnkey contract in the history of MOPC.
Works include the complete reconstruction and widening of route 9's road shoulder of a 540km stretch between the city of Villa Hayes, near Asunción, and the town of Mariscal Estigarribia.
The project's investment takes into account the implementation of works for the different stretches, a communications plan, environmental services, and oversight costs.
The proposal will now move to the bid evaluation committee for a 15-day review.
If awarded, the works are expected to take three years.
