Inaugural Thinking Forward eventAEM’s “Thinking Forward” series will kick off with an event focused on additive manufacturing and its potential impact on member businesses.

The event is set for May 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory near Knoxville, Tennessee. Registration is currently open.

“The ‘Thinking Forward’ series serves to provide our members with a vision of the future as they prepare to face critical challenges to their businesses,” said AEM Senior Director of Membership and Engagement Paul Flemming. “Through their participation in these membership events, they can come away with the knowledge and confidence necessary for them to be able to navigate what lies ahead.”

Attendees at the May 4 event will hear from Oak Ridge National Laboratory Corporate Fellow and Ph.D. Lonnie Love. Love will discuss how additive manufacturing is more than just 3D printing, and he will detail its advantages for member companies – including lower costs, shorter lead-time and less waste. In addition, a market update will be provided by Longbow Securities Senior Vice President Eli Lustgarten.

Both the objective of AEM’s Thought Leadership KRA and the corresponding priorities set by the AEM Futures Council helped shape the development of the 2017 series of membership events. The goal of the Thought Leadership KRA is to position AEM as a recognized and influential thought leader by articulating an industry vision and by keeping members informed about potential issues that could disrupt their business models and industries.

“Implementation of the ‘Thinking Forward’ member events is among the actions AEM is taking to meet the objectives of the Thought Leadership KRA of the new AEM Strategic Plan,” said Flemming. “To help members stay at the forefront of issues impacting their businesses, each of the planned gatherings will be used to offer members a thought leader speaker on Industry 4.0.”

“Thinking Forward” events will feature expert presentations on trends that the AEM Futures Council has identified as having near-term potential to impact manufacturers. In addition, various stops on the 2017 membership tour will also include market updates, member engagement breakouts, peer-to-peer networking opportunities and more.
