Milking MachineThe National Conference on Interstate Milk Shipments (NCIMS) recently paved the way for final adoption of proposed updates to the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO) that will properly regulate Automated Milking Installations (AMI).

AEM coordinated with AMI manufacturing members Lely, DeLaval, BouMatic, AMS Galaxy and GEA to implement a multi-year, multi-pronged strategy to develop the regulatory update and see its enactment through coordinated outreach to a variety of industry stakeholders, as well as state dairy regulators and the Food and Drug Administration.

The proposed PMO AMI updates were a consensus document written with input from FDA, state regulators, food industry representatives and AMI manufacturers, passed with unanimous support of the NCIMS Tech Committee and Council.

FDA’s statement of support for the proposed updates included glowing words regarding the AMI manufacturers’ efforts to work with FDA to achieve a solution that worked for manufacturers while maintaining our nation’s high food safety standards.
