Have you adapted your exhibit design and engagement plans to today’s multigenerational workforce? If not, you may be missing out on opportunities to promote your brand.
Trade show strategists Matthew Hill and Julia Grandi-Hill of the Hill Group will present a free webinar, “Multigenerational Attendees: Is Your Exhibit Meeting Everyone’s Needs?” on October 11 from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. CDT. The webinar is part of the CONEXPO-CON/AGG exhibitor education program.
“We’ve found that exhibitors sometimes don’t keep up with what attendees want to experience and who they want to talk to,” said Matthew Hill. “It helps to have a multigenerational staff, but even if you don’t, everyone should be flexible and know how to work multigenerationally.”
Keep Social Media Simple
For younger attendees, social media should be part of your exhibit but it doesn’t need to be complex, said Julia Grandi-Hill.
“Do something simple like display your show hashtag on a tabletop sign in your booth,” Grandi-Hill said. “Millennials like to share stuff they think is cool.”
However, you still need to make it easy for all generations to help promote your brand, said Matthew Hill.
“Some older attendees may still want paper brochures,” he noted.
Staff Can Make Big Difference
Staffing can make a huge difference and should be a key factor in your show planning, said Matthew Hill.
“A multigenerational staff with a mix of women and millennials will allow attendees to find someone they identify with immediately,” said Julia Grandi-Hill.
All attendees want a personal experience and not a mechanical recitation of product features, said Matthew Hill. An open, welcoming booth with attractive lighting and sound appeals to all ages, he noted.
Tips to Attract Multigenerational Attendees
Here are four tips to consider when planning for multigenerational attendees, according to Matthew and Julia:
- You’re probably already doing a lot of things right.
- Your booth layout and design should accommodate all generations.
- Your staff must be sensitive and open to women and younger decision-makers.
- Make use of new technology like social media and video.
