A new, five-year farm bill was enacted in early 2014. The legislation revamped the safety net for production agriculture by eliminating direct payments in favor of reinforced crop insurance.

With the legislative work done, future challenges will involve ensuring that the programs are properly implemented by the administration and protecting funding levels of the crop insurance programs.

AEM believes a strong safety net is a vital component of the ag economy and will work with industry partners to see the new Farm Bill executed as Congress intended.
