Take a moment to reflect on some of conference sessions you've attended in the past. Remember zoning out while listening to certain presenters, and with others having pages of notes for actionable items?

Your experience is no different than the nearly 10,000 individuals who attended education sessions at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2017.

Our goal at AEM is to assemble the highest quality programming that provides benefit to attendees. And in doing so, we ensure it provides added value to you. Our beacon data confirms that education session attendees spend nearly two hours more on the show floor than other attendees do. Moreover, the more education completed by an attendee, the more time he or she spends on the show floor.

And, as it turns out, putting together the RIGHT education is as easy as 1, 2, 3.

1. Pick the right topic. -- A June 2018 survey of education participants indicated that 55 percent of attendees are looking for ideas they can implement immediately. They are also highly concerned with increasing margins. So with that in mind, try and make your session relevant through:

  • Case studies
  • Current product technology
  • Best practices
  • Solutions for challenges

2. Enlist the help of the right people. -- Contractors want to learn from the source. We hear it over and over (and over) in session evaluations that they do not want sessions taught by marketing and sales professionals. So consider using:

  • Product engineers
  • End-user/contractors
  • Executives
  • Technical consultants
  • Experienced people, but not too experienced (We refer to them as seasoned, but not too salty.)

3. Find the right delivery. --How information is presented means everything. So be sure to:

  • Develop clear and short session titles
  • Use panel presentations with diversity of thought that provide ideas for different size companies
  • Engage the audience

An example of a session that saw great results in 2017 was submitted by AEM member Polydeck Screen Corporation. Maximizing Screen Efficiency had a clear and concise title that indicated solutions-oriented content that will deliver on the bottom line. It ended up being a panel presentation with several technical leads from the company and a well-known end user. It was the right topic, with the right people and the right delivery.

Now it's your turn!  The call for session proposals for CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2020 Education is open, and we are seeking quality content that will advance the industry. Sessions are evaluated by past education attendees and the CONEXPO-CON/AGG Education Committee. Deadline for submissions is Nov. 15, with notifications of decisions sent in mid-March 2019.

We want you to be the education session with a packed room and a perfect session evaluation rating. Because we know that means attendees had a great experience, and so did your organization.
