The 2023 state legislative sessions are already in full swing across the country. Since the start of the new year, the AEM Advocacy Team has been visiting state capitals, meeting with state legislators and executives to discuss policies that can strengthen and grow the manufacturing industry: policies that improve our roads, bridges and highways; expand broadband connectivity to our rural communities; and help grow farm income.

AEM has already made several visits to Des Moines, Iowa, meeting with lawmakers on the importance of incentivizing the adoption of precision agriculture technology. Last year, the Iowa Senate introduced SF 2290, which would allow dairy farmers to receive low interest loans to invest in robotic milkers and other modern dairy technology. Equipped with AEM’s recent studies, the Environmental Benefits of Precision Agriculture and the Environmental Benefits of Modern Dairy, Hay, and Forage Production Technologies, we have been meeting with lawmakers to encourage the reintroduction of the bill in the 2023 session.

Over in Madison, Wisconsin, lawmakers are equally excited about precision agriculture. The AEM Advocacy Team is working with lawmakers who are interested in crafting and introducing legislation that would extend incentives for investment in precision agriculture technology. In the coming weeks and months, AEM will host lawmakers at member company faculties to give them a first-hand view of how precision agriculture tools help farmers monitor, manage and maximize their operations.

The AEM Advocacy Team has also been busy working with Governors across the country to schedule roundtables, meetings and visits to manufacturing facilities as part of our I Make America campaign. If you are interested in hosting a lawmaker at your facility, please reach out to advocacy@aem.org and we would be happy to coordinate a visit.

It has been a busy, and productive, few weeks advocating for AEM’s policy priorities in state capitals. We will continue to share updates on legislative developments and other initiatives around the country as sessions continue.
