The AEM Technical & Safety Department sponsored seven separate member committee meetings last month, with 40 members from 24 different member companies in attendance. 

The set of meetings commenced with a gathering of the Construction Equipment Standards & Regulations Committee, which welcomed the three new members employees of the AEM Technical & Safety team:

  • Director of Product Stewardship – Jeff Jurgens
  • Director of Global Standards and Compliance – Jason Malcore
  • Technical Manager – Travis Webb

The introductions support the original announcements from AEM Senior Vice President Curt Blades, that AEM will bring additional resources to the Technical & Safety Department to manage global standards and regulations and reduce possible worldwide trade barriers.

The CESRC agenda covered a wide range of issues and topics that are very relevant to member companies and the industry at-large:

  • California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 that goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2020.  This act provides guideline requirements that protect customer privacy and mirrors the EU GDPR regulations.
  • OSHA Silica Rule specifically Table 1 – job-site effectiveness
  • OSHA is also developing an informative and awareness video on silica dust control for off-road, heavy duty equipment. AEM is participating and have requested member participation.
  • Jeff Moredock from Sy-Klone has become a regular on the CESRC agenda sharing his expertise and knowledge on the OSHA Silica Rule, clean air quality and ISO 23875 which he chairs. 
  • A group of AEM members made a trip to Vancouver Canada for a meeting with WorkSafe BC concerning: three-point seat belts, requiring mirrors, chain shot guarding and requesting comments. 
  • AEM’s John Wagner provided a Regulatory Compliance update and review. He announced that a SNAP application for AEM members for R1234YF refrigerant is being submitted.
  • Susan Harmon, from Charles Machine Works, announced that the Vacuum Excavator & Sewer Equipment J3106 standard is published and available, and the J3107 standard is in the final ISO review. 
  • Caterpillar’s Chuck Crowell provided updates on the International and North America Standards & Regulations covering the current status of many global and national standards and regulations. Check out the meeting minutes for additional information: (
