AEM recently organized and led a tour of automatic milking installations (AMI) displays for officials from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) at the World Dairy Expo

The Oct. 3 tour afforded Dr. Bill Jones, the FDA's director of food safety, and Dr. Stephen Walker, the FDA's consumer safety officer, an opportunity to learn firsthand about the latest advancements in milking technology from AEM member companies GEA Farm Technologies, Lely, Waikato, AMS Galaxy and DeLaval. Following the tour, these companies, along with AEM member BouMatic, sat down with the FDA officials to discuss how best to regulate the dairy sector moving forward.

“The tour and discussions were very helpful as AEM continues a long history of working to educate government officials about the realities of modern production agriculture, while maintaining open lines of communications on developing public policy,” said AEM Senior Director of Government and Industry Relations Nick Tindall.

The World Dairy Expo is a five-day event showcasing dairy cattle and the newest technologies available to the dairy industry. The show is held annually at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin.
