AEM member O’Neal Manufacturing Services(OMS) welcomed more than 30 students, educators and community members to its Indianapolis facility for a Manufacturing Day celebration on October 2.

The event, designed to draw attention to the outstanding opportunities that a career in manufacturing can provide, featured a plant tour, a panel discussion by current employees and a presentation about the company.

It was part of an effort by OMS to change public perceptions about today’s manufacturing environment.

“We think it is vital to demonstrate to the community that American manufacturing is still alive and well, and in fact thriving, in their local community,” said Jim McGill, director of commercial strategy for OMS. “We as a country, and at OMS specifically, have worked very hard to remain globally competitive – and we are succeeding. This is not the manufacturing environment of our fathers. We work in facilities that are clean, technology-based and constantly striving to be at the leading edge of manufacturing improvements.”

Manufacturing Day is an annual national event executed at the local level supported by thousands of manufacturers as they host students, teachers, parents, job seekers and other local community members at open houses, plant tours and presentations designed to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers.
