Project developer Sociedad Concesionaria Puente Industrial SA, owned by OHL Concesiones Chile, resubmitted the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the Biobío river industrial bridge project, located in the city of Concepción, Biobío region.

The document was withdrawn a month ago from Chile's environmental evaluation service SEA for improvements, local media outlet Biobio Chile reported.

The EIA for the project was initially submitted on June 30.

Works are being developed under a 30-year concession and involve the construction of a 2.5km, four-lane bridge. They also include access roads and roads to connect the bridge with the Ruta 160 highway, for a total of 6.5km of works.

Investments are for a total of US$178mn.

The project involves the design, construction, maintenance and operation of the fourth bridge over the Biobío river, and a highway connecting the communities of San Pedro de la Paz and Hualpén.

The stretch will have four lanes, two in each direction, and employ free-flow toll technology.
