Deputy Secretary GravesDeputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves joined over 24,000 enthusiastic visitors on the National Mall for AEM’s inaugural Celebration of Construction on the National Mall.

The Deputy Secretary visited with equipment manufacturers and discussed the technology and innovations that help the industry maximize productivity and efficiency, keep people safe, and reduce the time and materials used and the overall environmental impact of construction projects. 

While on the National Mall, Deputy Secretary Graves learned about Komatsu’s work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for customers through innovative product development and got a first-hand look at the 20-ton class all-electric hydraulic excavator – the PC2110E. The Deputy Secretary also took in a live demonstration of BOMAG’s fully autonomous tandem roller, ROBOMAG, and heard from Topcon how the adoption of digital construction technology can improve productivity and sustainability. 

“It was great getting to see firsthand cutting-edge technology the construction industry is using for major projects across the country,” said Deputy Secretary Graves. “This initiative is indicative of AEM's valuable partnership in advancing our shared goals to boost growth and innovation, create good paying jobs, and help our workers and companies compete in the global economy.” 

The Deputy Secretary concluded his visit with a discussion with AEM’s Kip Eideberg about the importance of strengthening America’s domestic manufacturing capacity, as well as the Biden-Harris Administration’s transformational investments in manufacturing innovation, research and development, and workforce training. He even had a message for young people who are considering careers in manufacturing.
