Crawler CarrierAEM recently launched a North America statistics reporting program for crawler carriers.

According to AEM Director of Statistics and Market Information Rex Sprietsma and AEM Director of Utility Services John Somers, five manufacturers will report rigid frame machines, while three of those five companies will report crawler carriers with a rotating upper structure. Both types have five unique classes.

“The development of a North America statistics reporting program for crawler carriers serves as a prime example of AEM's increased focus on serving the utility sector,” said Somers. “We’re excited to add crawler carriers as the third product added under our statistics utility product segment, joining previously established and successful programs for vacuum excavators and sewer cleaners.”

Participating members will receive monthly output reports with shipments beginning with January of 2016, giving them approximately two-and-a-half years of data.

“Crawler carriers are designed for the kind of terrain that wheeled utility vehicles can’t handle due to ground conditions, grade or working angles,” says Matt Slater, director of sales at Terramac, a participating company. “Their ability to be paired with a variety of utility attachments like vacuum excavators, lineman winches and fifth wheels allows electric crews to safely and efficiently install, restore or repair powerline services in remote areas.”

Terramac is a first-time reporter, as are two other participating companies – Morooka and Prinoth. The other two participants – Morbark (Rayco) and Yanmar America – report into other AEM equipment programs.

“In an effort to provide industry-leading services to help our members succeed, we will continue to research additional products for future inclusion in our statistics utility product segment,” added Somers.
