Increasing aerial work safety in China is the goal of a new standard that AEM and a group of aerial work platform (AWP) manufacturers are helping to develop.
“By increasing awareness of aerial work platform safety, the Chinese government and AWP manufacturers are helping to encourage advanced safety practices and safe equipment usage in China’s aerial work industry,” said Amy Wang, AEM technical and safety manager – China.
Working together at regular meetings over the last six months, AWP manufacturers have gathered information on regional regulatory requirements; latest international, U.S., and EU standards development; and international-level industry best practices for aerial work safety.
“All of this information has been shared with the Chinese National Elevating Work Platform Technical Committee (TC) through the proposed draft materials prepared by the group,” Wang said.
Drafting experts from the Chinese National Elevating Work Platform TC met recently with the group and AEM. The committee plans to review a working draft of the standard at its annual conference in November.
Once released, Wang said, the new regulation will become a mandatory national standard and the most authoritative standard in the aerial work safety sector. The standard could also lead to more sales of aerial work platforms in China.
