John Somers

AEM Vice President, Construction & Utility Sector, John Somers joined the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) in 2007 and has held various positions with increasing responsibility within the organization over the past 14 years and was promoted to his current position in 2021. 

As Vice President, Construction & Utility Sector, Somers is responsible for the strategic direction of construction and utility programs and services for AEM membership, and he will serve as the primary liaison with CE-specific industry organizations, customer groups and government agencies, both in North America and worldwide. In addition to driving value to both the exhibitors and attendees at the association’s trade shows, CONEXPO-CON/AGG, The International Fluid Power Exposition, The Utility Expo and World of Asphalt, Somers strives to help equipment manufacturers in the construction utility industries improve their businesses. 

Somers serves on the Next Practices Advisory Committee with Common Ground Alliance to encourage innovation and new practices to address the most critical challenges facing the damage prevention industry. The initiative is guided by damage prevention leaders who use industry data, quantitative surveys and stakeholder input to clearly identify and focus the industry on the advancement of the most effective solutions to address critical damage prevention challenges.
Somers is an alumnus of Carroll University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in computer science.
