Advancing industry action, adoption, and education around sustainability in the equipment manufacturing industry brought representatives from AEM’s Sustainability Council together in Rosemont, Illinois last week for a day-long, in-person meeting.
Led by Kirsten Mauritzen, senior sustainability manager for AEM member company Caterpillar, last week’s meeting provided council members an opportunity to join one or more of AEM’s sustainability workstreams and lay the foundation for future association activities and initiatives.
Key agenda items covered during the most recent meeting of the AEM Sustainability Council included:
- AEM’s global outreach
- Thought leadership and industry positioning
- AEM’s upcoming Celebration of Modern Agriculture on the National Mall event
- SEC climate disclosure rules/ESG reporting
In addition, Council members spent time meeting with their respective workstream groups to determine workstream governance, confirm scope and objectives, identify key priorities, and determine strategies and tactics for driving member and industry value. The workstreams and their long-term goals are:
Ensure Supply Chain Success
- Enhance and promote the AEM Sustainability Toolkit
- Develop opportunities for deeper education and faster adoption throughout the supply chain
- Align OEM and supply chain sustainability reporting requests and expectations
Build Industry Alignment
- Provide ag and construction sector reporting guidance for OEMs
- Increase education, adoption, and action around sustainability
- Integrate sustainability into efforts of other AEM Councils and Committees
Advancing Public Perceptions
- Leverage the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a framework for efforts
- Establish industry benchmarks
- Enable the equipment manufacturing industry to tell its story of sustainability growth and development
The next meeting of the AEM Sustainability Council is set to be held virtually in Q3 of 2024. For more information, contact AEM’s Curt Blades at cblades@aem.org, or AEM’s Al Melhim at amelhim@aem.org.
