Al InsertLongtime AEM leader and Senior Vice President Al Cervero has announced he will retire at the end of the year.

Cervero informed AEM President Megan Tanel of his decision early last week, and his impending retirement was shared with the association’s Board of Directors, along with AEM staff and leadership, shortly thereafter.

“It’s been an honor to support and push the industry forward,” said Cervero.

“It’s been a great ride, truly unforgettable moments, and hopefully a few more to be enjoyed! My wife, Robin, and I hope to see you all at my last organizing of the AEM Annual Conference, ‘Braving the Elements’ this November,” he added.

“Al played an instrumental role in achieving so many important AEM milestones and launching creative leadership initiatives during his time with the association – launching AEM’s China office, establishing the International Association Committee (IAC), taking the Futures Council to the next level and, of course, serving as the creative lead for AEM’s Annual Conference – among many other initiatives,” said Tanel.

“And for me, personally, Al has been a friend, mentor and colleague,” she continued. “I thank him for his leadership and steadfast support of our industry, and I congratulate him for all he has accomplished over his impressive career.”

Cervero joined AEM in 1995, holding several leadership positions over the years, including Director of Marketing, Vice President and Senior Vice President of Construction, Mining and Utility, and his current role of Senior Vice President, Technology, Content and Revenue Creation.

Prior to joining the association, he worked in the construction equipment industry for 20 years in various leadership roles for several companies, including Harnischfeger P&H and Astec, including leading a management buyout of P&H’s construction division from Harnischfeger in 1988.
