As federal and state leaders look to modernize America’s infrastructure, equipment manufacturers are stepping up with innovative solutions to strengthen jobsite performance, expand economic opportunity, and rebuild the physical backbone of the nation. BOMAG Americas is one of the companies leading this work, and in the latest POLITICO Focus feature, sponsored by CONEXPO-CON/AGG and AEM, BOMAG Americas President Brian Bieller says the industry’s future will depend on sustained investment and rapid adoption of advanced technologies.

One recent American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) report found that one in three bridges nationally is deficient. In South Carolina, home to BOMAG Americas’ headquarters, nearly 2,000 bridges require repair. At the same time, manufacturers face a significant workforce transition as experienced employees retire, creating a “brain drain” that compounds existing jobsite pressures.
To meet these challenges, OEMs like BOMAG are accelerating development of technologies that “help to drive efficiency, improve quality and help to improve the work of less experienced workers.” The industry, Bieller notes, must “embrace and accept new technology to facilitate faster, more efficient means of construction.”
Bieller says the company’s technology helps make roads “smoother and longer lasting with fewer repairs,” delivering “better, more efficient travel, and reduced consumption of natural resources.” From bird’s-eye detection to remote-controlled machines, autonomous equipment, and digital mapping tools, BOMAG Americas is delivering solutions that enhance both the jobsite and the broader infrastructure system.
By collecting and connecting data from mills, pavers, and rollers, contractors can enable machines to communicate across the jobsite and back office — helping teams “improve efficiency, quality and affordability.”
Importance of Infrastructure Funding
The industry remains clear on one of its most urgent needs: predictable long-term infrastructure funding.
“We need the federal government to provide long-term infrastructure funding to the states, ensuring the investment and growth of our projects nationwide,” says Bieller.
Long-term federal commitments provide certainty for contractors and encourage broader adoption of advanced technologies. As Bieller notes, “Long-term funding at the federal level will give contractors the confidence to invest in and adopt available advanced equipment technologies that are designed to increase efficiency and quality at the jobsite.” Without sustained investment, he warns, disruptions to daily life will become more common and more costly.
Bieller’s video marks the fourth and final video in Politico FOCUS’s Building America’s Promise hub, which launched earlier this year. With CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026 a few months away, the video series highlighting how manufacturers’ policy priorities and plans for delivering more innovative and sustainable solutions that build America’s future.
