Scheduled for May 28, 2025, from 1-2 pm, CDT, this webinar will be moderated by AEM Technical Manager of Safety & Product Leadership Sam Rathburn, as John Deere Manager of Product Safety Standards Joe Flaugher discusses what standards are, the standards creation process, and standards surrounding autonomy.

Flaugher is responsible for leading product safety standards strategy, development, and implementation related to new technologies. He has worked in agricultural machinery safety standards for 15+ years as a part of his overall 20+ years of experience working in standards organizations.

Key takeaways of this session will include:

  • What standards are, how they differ from regulations, and how standards positively impact our world.
  • An outline of the National and International Standards Development Process, highlighting how members can get involved.
  • Understanding the standards work that has been done, and is being worked on today, within the equipment manufacturing industry in terms of autonomy.

These insights allow members to stay informed in their navigation of industry standards surrounding autonomy, and how to get involved in key work surrounding the subject.

Autonomous equipment is a developing technology that OEMs continue to advocate for today. This technology intends on creating a safer working environment for workers, improving productivity, and reducing the need for consumable resources. To enhance the safety, user experience, and efficiency of autonomous equipment, the off-road industry utilizes the industry consensus standards development process.
