AEM has so many points of engagement with its 1,000-plus member companies. Whether it’s through exhibitions and trade shows, participation in market share statistics, or support of advocacy, AEM member organizations are finding ways to build momentum and grow their respective businesses through their involvement with AEM.
The same is true for AEM Safety Materials, a service area in which approximately nine out of 10 AEM members who manufacture large off-road equipment make use of safety materials developed by the association.
AEM shipped 516,000 units' worth of safety materials to its members and the general public last year. While North America was the biggest destination for those materials, AEM shipped its materials into Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, and Germany as well. Those figures are a testament to the reach of the Safety Materials program within the equipment manufacturing industry.
"AEM Safety Materials offer members a high-value, economical way to deliver safety messaging to equipment operators," said AEM Senior Director of Safety Materials Jaime Vos. "They provide an industry-consensus viewpoint, written in clear language, and produced in an easy-to-follow format that encourages safe equipment operation."
AEM’s Safety Materials are consensus documents that are developed, reviewed, and approved by committees empaneled by AEM, and they represent best practices for the industry. The safety materials include 54 manual titles, and they extend to additional collateral such as videos, brochures, decals, and training kits.
In many cases, the manual is often assigned a part number in a manufacturer’s production process to ensure it is included with other safety literature when the equipment is sold into market. This integration with the manufacturing process strengthens AEM member companies in their risk management programs.
“The AEM equipment manuals are valuable companion documents used in conjunction with the OEM’s Operation and Maintenance Manuals,” said Vos. “They reinforce safety messages in a slightly different presentation style to provide operators information on safe practices to use when operating and maintaining machinery. It is an example of industry working together to enhance safety on our member’s machinery.”
AEM is working in the future to increase the reach of the safety material programs with its free online safety toolkit. Already, a number of schools, construction companies, and rental businesses use AEM safety manuals and the toolkit as part of their safety training programs.
