AEM Launches New Market Share Statistics Program for the Geospatial Industry Group Handheld Mobile Scanners

AEM continues to expand its market intelligence offerings with the launch of a new market share statistics program for handheld mobile scanners, providing participating member companies with even greater visibility into this growing segment of the geospatial industry. 

Developed through the collaborative efforts of AEM's Geospatial Industry Group and originally proposed by AEM member company Faro Technologies Inc., the new program tracks quarterly handheld mobile scanner shipments across North America. The program aligns with other geospatial statistics initiatives by delivering reliable, consistent market data that helps participating companies better understand industry trends and market activity. 

Handheld mobile scanners are transforming how geospatial data is collected in the field. These portable devices use a combination of LiDAR technology, cameras, and sensors to capture highly detailed 3D representations of real-world environments. Unlike traditional high-definition terrestrial laser scanners, which are mounted on tripods and operate from a fixed location, handheld mobile scanners utilize Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) technology, allowing users to collect data while moving through an environment. The result is a faster, more flexible approach to generating high-resolution colored point clouds and digital models. 

Current participants in the program include AEM member companies Faro Technologies Inc., Leica Geosystems, STONEX USA Inc., and Topcon Positioning Systems, Inc. The first market share report was published on July 28th 2026, marking an important milestone in AEM's ongoing commitment to providing high-quality market intelligence for the equipment manufacturing industry. 

As adoption of mobile mapping technologies continues to grow, the new program will help participating companies benchmark performance, monitor market trends, and make more informed business decisions.
