Advocacy, Regulatory and Trade Shows Top AEM CE Sector Board Agenda

CE Sector BoardAEM’s CE Sector Board of Directors met on April 9 in Washington, DC to discuss a number of key sector initiatives. The agenda also featured updates from AEM staff regarding the association’s service areas, including advocacy, regulatory, and trade shows.     

CE Sector Board Vice Chair Erica Baird, Executive Director - Global Sales and Service, Cummins Inc., called the meeting to order and welcomed Directors to the first meeting of 2024. Directors engaged in a discussion surrounding artificial intelligence (AI) and its use within their organizations, both internally supporting marketing, human resources, and production and externally supporting their dealers and customers. 

AEM Vice President of Construction and Utility Sector John Somers and AEM Senior Director of Construction Sara Feuling reviewed AEM initiatives supporting the 2024 CE Sector Priorities: 

  • Advocate for the construction industry and proactively engage with policy makers and regulators.  
  • Support the transformation of the construction industry, recognizing the central role played by technology.  
  • Define the changing experience and address the evolving needs of construction industry end users and stakeholders. 

Advocacy 

AEM Senior Vice President of Government and Industry Relations Kip Eideberg, AEM Vice President of Federal Affairs Kate Fox Wood, and AEM Director of State Affairs Nick Rudowich reviewed recent legislative accomplishments and discussed potential challenges and opportunities at both the state and federal levels as the AEM team continues to build relationships and momentum for our industry.  

Eideberg also thanked Directors for their engagement with The AEM Manufacturing Express, the association's most ambitious advocacy initiative to date. 

Regulatory 

AEM Senior Vice President of Membership, Business Development and Data Sara Truesdale Mooney discussed a proposal to use anonymized, aggregated data in support of AEM’s regulatory and legislative priorities. The CE Sector Board recommended the proposal for AEM Board approval. Please see the upcoming AEM Board of Directors recap for more details. 

Trade Shows 

AEM Senior Vice President of Exhibitions and Marketing Nicole Hallada and AEM Vice President of Exhibitions and Event Services and CONEXPO-CON/AGG Show Director Dana Wuesthoff provided an update on exhibitions, including World of Asphalt and CONEXPO-CON/AGG. World of Asphalt 2024 set new records in both attendance and square footage, with over 15,800 industry professionals exploring more than 440 exhibitors and 120 educational sessions during the three-day event.  

The AEM team continues their strategic review as they begin planning for CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026.
