POLITICO Focus has released the newest installment of its Building America’s Promise series, sponsored by CONEXPO-CON/AGG and AEM. The digital content hub spotlights leaders in the equipment manufacturing industry who are developing the technologies that are shaping the future of construction.

The latest video features Terry Dolan, Head of CNH Construction Brands for North America, who discusses how alternative power sources and emerging technologies are transforming the industry’s approach to sustainability. Dolan points to one of the sector’s greatest challenges, scaling clean-energy solutions to meet diverse applications, and emphasizes CNH’s efforts to tailor technologies to the needs of specific equipment and markets.

“It’s hard to have one alternative power solution that can scale to meet all of the different needs across this industry,” Dolan said. “We need to tailor the solution to the specific product and its intended purpose.”

Dolan notes CNH’s progress with both electric construction equipment, which reduces noise and emissions in residential areas, and methane-powered tractors and loaders on the agricultural side. These advances, he said, are helping improve environmental performance while enabling contractors to work more efficiently, even indoors where diesel engines were once impractical.

“Not everyone immediately thinks of clean, green energy when they think of the construction and equipment manufacturing industry,” Dolan added. “But this industry is focused on making contractors more productive, more efficient, and more sustainable.”

Dolan urged policymakers to help accelerate this transition by supporting incentives that bridge the cost gap between traditional diesel machines and emerging electric or alternative-power models. “By building that bridge, we will be able to utilize these technologies to transform more quickly,” he said.

Looking ahead, Dolan predicts the next decade will bring rapid transformation as advanced, sustainable technologies make construction jobs safer, faster, and more efficient. He also highlighted the importance of CONEXPO-CON/AGG as a platform for collaboration and innovation.

“CONEXPO-CON/AGG allows industry leaders to showcase the innovations and sustainable technologies shaped by feedback from contractors in the field,” Dolan said. “It’s a chance to strengthen relationships and reenergize our commitment to the people who power this industry.”
